The stealth title is scheduled for release in June.
nDreams’ upcoming virtual reality (VR) title Phantom: Covert Ops looks set to offer one of the most promising stealth experiences of 2020. Today, the developer has announced that the voice actor behind Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid, David Hayter will be voicing Phantom: Covert Ops ‘ lead antagonist.
In Phantom: Covert Ops players are charged with infiltrating a Cold War naval base owned by disgraced ex-Soviet General Zhurov (Hayter). The entire videogame takes place on the water with players having to maneuver around in a kayak.
Phantom: Covert Ops is a revolutionary VR game at the next level and one of the finest stealth games I’ve ever seen or been part of, Hayter commented in a tweet. Virtual reality certainly brings a new level of immersion into gaming and being a part of it has been extremely exciting.
The kayak has a variety of useful things within easy reach of the player, providing stealth and noisy approaches. A silent sniper rifle and gun to take down guards in secrecy, or an MP5 and C4 if they don’t want to be as discreet.
Having someone of David’s caliber playing one of the game’s main characters speaks volumes on what we’re trying to achieve with Phantom,” said Tom Gillo, nDreams’ Production VP.
Oculus headset owners and stealth games fans like Metal Gear Solid should take this villain’s chance! Originally demoing Phantom: Covert Operations during Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2019, the first impressions from VRFocus find that: ‘What has been shown has a great promise’ and could be ‘Potentially nDreams’ best VR game so far.’
nDreams previously announced that Phantom: Covert Operations would hit the Oculus Quest and Oculus Rift headsets exclusively on 25 June 2020. Take a look at the new trailer below and VRFocus will keep you updated as more details are released.
