Some Health and Beauty Courses Available Today

Do you dream of becoming the owner of a beauty salon? Are you aspiring to be a cosmetologist or considering getting into the health spa business? Or maybe you want to take a short course in aesthetic injectables or learn how to cut hair.

There are many ways to achieve these wishes, and perhaps the easiest way is to take health and beauty courses. There are many kinds of health and beauty courses in the market today. Some offer certificates, while others offer degrees. Some can last as short as a week while others take years to finish.

Here are some to know about if you don’t already:

Hairdressing

Hairdressing is the occupation of styling and cutting hair. A hairdresser cuts or styles to help a person change their image. Often, a hairdresser helps maintain the image of a person. Colour, cut, texture and other factors come into the picture when dressing hair. A customer comes in to get one or all of the options done on their hair and comes out as good as new. Often, a hairdresser has regular clients and can maintain their hair per the client’s wishes on a scheduled basis.

There are different kinds of haircut techniques out there. Some are, the fade and taper, the taper fade, the low fade, the undercut, the undercut comb over pomp, the bob, the fringe, the Aniston (named after actress Jennifer Aniston), the pompadour, the slicked back and dozens of other styles. A hairdresser would have to study all of these and choose whether to cut men’s or women’s hair.

Hair colour is a complicated process that must be studied by aspiring hairdressers in health and beauty courses. There are various kinds of hair colour available in salons, such as temporary hair colour, semi-permanent hair colour, permanent hair colour, highlights, ombre, balayage, etc. A hairdresser would have to know all of these and more to gather a large clientele successfully.

Under hairdressing is also barbering, which caters to men. Barbers would have to study health and beauty courses to shave a customer and other procedures for men, including cutting and dressing men’s hair. For barbers, the process is usually called grooming, as opposed to beautifying for women.

Salon Management

Salon management requires one to take many health and beauty courses. Although a salon manager need not be an expert in hairdressing or the other services offered in the salon, it would be a plus in salon management. But what is required are courses in writing a successful business plan, management training, and marketing. A salon manager would equally have to know how to recruit talent.

Spa Management

A spa manager would have to take several different health and beauty courses. The most basic would be health and beauty courses in spa therapy, which would involve applications like massage and water therapies. There are many specialty schools in the world offering spa therapy courses.

But the most important thing a spa manager will do is to oversee all aspects of the spa’s operations. This includes managing staff. A spa manager would also have to study how to run the spa on a day to day basis. This includes therapist training and management. Many health and beauty courses offer spa management skills in individual classes.
