The fact is that the majority of our thoughts and actions are on autopilot. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing either. Our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions carry us through our lives so we don’t have to stop and think about it every time we wipe our ass or start a car.
The problem is when we’re on autopilot for so long that we forget we’re on autopilot. Because when we’rent even aware of our own habits, routines, impulses, and reactions, then we no longer control them they control us.

Sometimes we want to know what it is we’re doing, when we’re doing it, and why we’re doing it. Sometimes we want a way to get out of doing it, and we find it in doing something that is not only a way to get out of it but also gives us purpose.
We have been taught to trust our instincts, to do what we think is right, even if we don’t know why we think it is right. We also have been taught to trust our emotions, to do what we think is good for us, even if it makes us feel bad. But we have also been taught that emotions are just feelings and that we will inevitably get angry if we don’t follow our instinct.
The most common way to get out of getting out of it is to do something that is not a very good way to get out of, but we don’t want to think it is.
